(ORDO NEWS) — Animals contracted it even before the pandemic.
Scientists have found antibodies to protein regions characteristic of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in the blood of cats from different regions of the United States.
The most interesting thing is that these blood samples were taken from animals even before the pandemic.
The scientists said that to their surprise, 70% of the feline serum samples tested positive for antibodies against the receptor-binding domain of SARS-CoV-2 and its related SARS-CoV.
The researchers tried to explain this by the fact that cats, even before the pandemic, were in contact with another virus similar to the causative agent of COVID-19.
Scientists have suggested that a potentially dangerous virus could be spreading among American cats right now.
