US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — All people are looking forward to the vaccine against coronavirus, which will save them from the raging strain and stop its spread. The good news is that clinical trials of some vaccines are already underway. There is also other great news: even people who haven’t been sick are immune from coronavirus.
According to a study by the Institute of Immunology in La Hoya, California, some vaccines are based on awakening human immune cells to fight the virus. It was concluded that the body of any person can cope with a “stranger.”
The study examined how T-cells of immunity affect SARS-CoV-2 antigens in blood samples collected even before the epidemic in 2015-2018. In approximately 50% of all cases, immune cells began to respond to the strain. This means that donors were immune to the new virus.
It is not ruled out that donors may have previously been ill with some variant of coronavirus, as a result of which they developed certain protective reactions. This theory was later confirmed: people received immunity from a whole family of viruses after they had been ill with HcoV-OC43 and HcoV-NL63 (these are coronaviruses that cause seasonal colds).
Thanks to the study, it becomes clear that many people can have good immunity from coronavirus. In case of infection, they will transfer the disease in a mild form. Now, to create a vaccine, it is important to detect in SARS-CoV-2 sections of the structure that provoke a reaction of the body – T cells. Scientists, it is worth noting, have already achieved some success in this direction.
