(ORDO NEWS) — NASA is about to hire 24 theologians. Their mission will be to assess how humanity will react to the unexpected discovery of alien life in space, and to explore how such knowledge will affect people‘s ideas about gods and the creation of the world.
Theologians will participate in the Center for Theological Research (CTI) program at Princeton University in New Jersey. In 2014, NASA provided a grant of $ 1.1 million for its implementation.
The main task of scientists will be to define the border between man and alien and define what it means to live in the human sense.
NASA has decided to hire theologians, including in connection with the launch of the Webb Space Telescope and Mars rovers operating on Mars or probes orbiting Jupiter and Saturn.
One of the theologians, Dr. Andrew Davison of the University of Cambridge, spoke about the mission of theologians at NASA.
“Religious traditions will become an integral part of how humanity will behave after the discovery of life on other planets,” he wrote on the university website.
