US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — The American Space Agency, along with many other enterprises, transferred its employees to remote work because of the pandemic. Now, NASA scientists have shown Business Insider how they control a rover from home.
We are talking about the Curiosity rover. Two NASA employees who work with the device spoke to reporters. One of the experts said that the agency managed to conduct test tests before closing the offices. Then the rover received and successfully executed several orders.
Curiosity is equipped with 3D cameras, which are used to send images to operators. This helps them determine where the rover should move on. Usually, specialists look at these images using special 3D glasses. However, working from home is expensive. Therefore, NASA employees use simple plastic red-blue glasses.
Also, employees have to participate in several video conferences at once, in order to communicate normally with colleagues. Therefore, they are forced to use several different headsets.
