US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — NASA is updating its logo for a new era – human space travel.
The 10-story logo that adorns the 160-meter side of the famous vertical assembly building (VAB) in the Space Center. Kennedy NASA, gets a new coat of paint. The bright red emblem vector and the royal azure blue background have faded since the Kennedy Space Center object was last used 13 years ago.
Since the launch of the astronauts should now resume from the cosmodrome in Florida, and are currently planning to return the crews to the moon, the time has come to restore the logo and the American flag adjacent to it to their original colors.
As part of the Artemis program, NASA is concentrating on landing the next man and first woman on the moon by 2024. It is planned that SpaceX will begin its first mission to deliver astronauts to the International Space Station on May 27, 2020 from the launch complex of Kennedy Space Center 39A.
NASA signed a contract with HM2 and HIS Painting in Titusville, Florida, to restore the logo and flag to its former glory. The companies have experience in painting large objects in the space industry, previously they put the big US flag on the side of the Atlas (ULA) and Vulcan (VIF) rockets in the space launch complex 41 at Canaveral Air Force Station and painted a mobile transport launcher that is used to support the NASA rocket Space Launch System (SLS), during its transportation from VAB to the launch pad for Artemis missions.
The American flag was first added to the VAB in 1976, in connection with the celebration of the first 200 years since the formation of the United States.
The NASA logo measuring 34×40 meters and the flag 64×34 meters were hit by Hurricane Francis in 2004, which tore 820 panels from the south wall of VAB. In 2007, both were repainted, requiring almost 2700 and 22700 liters of red, white and blue paint, respectively.
The NASA logo and the US flag are the largest of its kind. Each of the red and white stripes on the American flag has a width of 2.7 meters – wide enough to place on it one of the buses of the complex for visitors to the space center named after Kennedy, which are used for excursions in the center. Each of the 50 stars on the NASA logo has a diameter of 1.8 meters.
