(ORDO NEWS) — NASA is counting down the fourth attempt to complete the Artemis 1 launch pad at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
Scheduled for June 20 are two runs of the final ten-minute countdown with the integrated Orion spacecraft and Space Launch System (SLS) rocket for Artemis 1. Both vehicles are fully fueled under pressure, as they will be at launch.
After three attempts to complete the countdown demo test in April this year, members of the launch team have updated the countdown software and plan to fully fill the two cryogenic stages of the SLS launch vehicle with liquid oxygen (LOX) and liquid hydrogen (LH2) before starting the countdown.
If the tests are carried out in accordance with NASA requirements, the agency will soon be able to obtain the data needed to determine the official launch date. Currently, the earliest launch date for the Artemis 1 mission is considered to be the end of August.
