(ORDO NEWS) — SpaceX received approval from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on June 13 to launch its fully reusable giant rocket with the Starship spacecraft.
However, another regulatory hurdle could prevent the company from reaching the ambitious goals set by CEO Elon Musk.
The fact is that NASA management wants guarantees from SpaceX that the launches of its devices will not damage the infrastructure of the launch complex.
According to a Reuters report , NASA is concerned that an explosion at launch pad 39A, which SpaceX currently uses to launch astronauts to the International Space Station, could cause significant damage to it.
NASA also plans to use the famous launch complex (Pad 39A was used for the Apollo 11 launch) to send the Space Launch System (SLS) to the Moon.
New delays from NASA may delay the first orbital flight of Starship, although on the other hand, the FAA allowed SpaceX to launch Starship from its site in Boca Chica, Texas, but NASA every time reminds SpaceX of the explosion of the Starship SN8 prototype, which happened in 2020.
