(ORDO NEWS) — NASA‘s new attempt to launch a Space Launch System rocket equipped with an Orion space capsule could take place on Monday, November 14th.
Two two-hour back-up windows will be available Wednesday, November 16 starting at 9:04 am and Saturday, November 19.
NASA had to cancel two previous Artemis I launch attempts due to SLS fuel leaks.
Although NASA was able to fix all the problems at KSC Launch Pad 39-B after the last launch attempt on September 3, the team decided to protect their rocket from Hurricane Ian.
When the SLS returns to the assembly building, engineers will recharge the batteries of the self-destruct mechanism and several small satellites that will be deployed after Orion leaves low Earth orbit.
An equipment check showed that minimal technical work would be required before returning the rocket to the launch pad, including repairing minor damage to the thermal protection.
This will be the fourth time equipment weighing 2.6 million kilograms and 98 meters high will travel to the site on a tracked carrier. This 6 km journey could start as early as November 4th.
