(ORDO NEWS) — According to NASA’s asteroid tracking services, a huge space rock will safely approach our world in the coming days.
The Center for the Study of Near-Earth Objects (CNEOS) of the American Space Agency has published surprisingly detailed data on an asteroid that has left its orbit. NASA has confirmed that the object, code-named 153201 2000 WO107, will fly past Earth on Sunday – November 29th.
An uninvited visitor to our space quarter will pass Earth at 10.09 GMT (5.09 ET). According to preliminary data, the asteroid is a real “monster”, its average diameter is from 370 to 820 meters.
NASA also predicted that the asteroid is currently moving through space at a speed of 25.07 km / s. Moreover, even the most keen-sighted astronomers will not be able to see the asteroid from the Earth’s surface. This is due to the fact that 2000 WO107 approaches the Earth only within 0.02876 astronomical units.
The space agency classifies space rock as a potentially hazardous object (NEO) – a term for any asteroid or comet approaching 1.3 AU away. (distance between the Earth and the Sun) from the Earth.
NASA also confirmed that 2000 WO107 is not the only asteroid to come so relatively close to our planet on Sunday, November 29th. The website of the space agency NEO indicates that the asteroid WC2 2020 will also approach planet Earth in the very near future.
The flight path of these objects indicates that they are not destined to collide with the Earth. However, NASA is deeply concerned about this kind of threat, since such objects approach the Earth quite often, and no real protection against such threats has yet been invented.
