Mysterious “Havana Syndrome” linked to microwave radiation
(ORDO NEWS) — American scientists have published a report on the possible causes of a number of neurological symptoms in American diplomats, including dizziness, nausea, headaches and hearing problems, which they called “Havana syndrome.”
Who and why irradiated American diplomats with microwaves is still a mystery.
The National Academies of Sciences, Medicine and Engineering of the United States published a joint report on the possible reasons for the appearance of mysterious health problems among American diplomats in Cuba and China: embassy officials complained of headaches, nausea, dizziness and hearing problems. The Americans called the set of symptoms the “Havana syndrome”, and the US authorities decided to consider the targeted attack on diplomats, organized by Cuba and China, respectively, as the reason. However, some Americans called Russia the customer of the attack.
It was assumed that unknown persons used sonic weapons to attack: diplomats complained that they often heard some high-frequency sounds. The sound recorded near the place of residence of the victims coincided in frequency with the chirping of crickets, which are very common in Havana. For some, the diplomats who suffered from the “Havana symptom” developed their symptoms into chronic ones.
MRI of the brain revealed a loss of white and gray matter, as well as impaired functional connections between the sensory regions, and without any traumatic brain injury. The reason for the appearance of both symptoms and structural changes in the brain has remained a mystery to scientists. As a result, the US State Department instructed the American academies of science, medicine and engineering to come to a general agreement about the possible causes of the “Havana syndrome.”
Scientists, after the analysis, summarized that the cause of the onset of symptoms was the effect of pulsating microwaves. All symptoms found were consistent with the description of their effects in the literature, which, in particular, indicates damage to the structure of the inner ear. As possible options, scientists also considered the outbreak of the Zika virus, which occurred in Cuba in 2016-2017, as well as the use of chemical weapons, but due to the inconsistency of the detected symptoms, both versions were not confirmed.
Experts noted that the Havana Syndrome victims had different sets of symptoms, so the reasons that caused the condition may also be different, even with microwave radiation. For example, they do not exclude that the increase in symptoms in some victims could occur due to psychological and social factors. In addition, the academicians did not rule out the presence of postural-perceptual dizziness in some of the victims.
Scientists also noted that they have no evidence that the exposure to microwave radiation was the result of a targeted attack on American diplomats: for this, they say, it is necessary to conduct additional research, in particular, controlled, as well as conduct a more detailed investigation with the participation of law enforcement agencies … Microwave radiation is not considered a lethal weapon, just like sonic radiation.
