(ORDO NEWS) — Here is an image of the surface of Venus, obtained on March 1, 1982 by the Soviet landing module Venera-13.
The temperature at the Venera 13 landing site was 465 degrees Celsius, and the pressure was almost 95 times the pressure on Earth.
You might think that the yellow-green atmosphere of Venus is the fantasy of Donald Mitchell , a scientist passionate about the Soviet Venus exploration program, who was involved in restoring and improving original images taken as part of the study of the neighboring planet.
However, the picture attached to the post shows almost natural colors.
The yellow-green color of the Venusian atmosphere is due to the fact that its high density near the surface, coupled with some compounds (for example, droplets of sulfur), leads to a strong scattering of yellow and green rays of sunlight reaching the surface.
On Earth, the sky looks blue because blue and violet rays are predominantly scattered in its atmosphere.
However, there are significantly fewer violet rays in the spectrum of our star than blue ones, and the sensitivity of the human eye to them is low. Therefore, on a clear sunny day, we see blue skies.
