(ORDO NEWS) — Toyota engineers have developed a new micro-robot with wireless charging capability.
Weighing only 1.8 grams, it is powered by a piezoelectric rotary solenoid powered by a 5GHz dipole antenna, as well as three twin wings (they are twinned for more efficient flapping).
Unlike other insect robots, this one charges directly from a wireless RF power source.
This means that instead of a 10-minute flight, it could theoretically fly as long as it can pick up the appropriate radio signal.
The company’s next goal is to create a whole aerial swarm of robotic insects.
