More than 54.8 million people affected by floods in China

(ORDO NEWS) — According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, floods caused by rains in China affected about 54.8 million people in 27 provincial regions.

Floods in these areas, including in Jiangxi, Anhui and Hubei provinces, have killed or gone missing 158 people, and displaced some 3.76 million people.

About 368,000 homes were damaged and direct economic losses amounted to 144.43 billion yuan (about $ 20.66 billion).

Since June, prolonged downpours have hit much of southern China, and water levels in many rivers in the affected areas have exceeded critical levels.
