(ORDO NEWS) — The sandy beaches of Otago in southern New Zealand turned blood red after millions of lobsters were massively killed.
Locals in the small coastal communities of Broad Bay and Edwards Bay have discovered entire stripes of coastline strewn with dead lobsters.
A strange phenomenon was reported this week.
Dr. John Zeldis, marine ecologist at the National Center for Aquatic and Atmospheric Sciences, said the dead lobsters are of the species munida gregaria.
