Military drills where soldiers eat live animals and drink snake blood could spark a new pandemic

(ORDO NEWS) — Every year, huge numbers of military personnel are sent to Thailand to participate in the military scientists dubbed Cobra Gold. Soldiers must kill and then eat live animals to learn how to survive in any conditions. Photos from an event held last year show soldiers skinning geckos and drinking the blood of a snake.

PETA calls to ban such events, because they not only violate any animal rights, but can also cause a new pandemic. The team sent a letter to the British Secretary of State for Defense, in which it asks to appeal to the organizers of the exercises with a demand to stop such actions.

Eating live animals can spread a variety of viruses that resemble SARS-CoV-2. If the result is another pandemic, it could be disastrous.

It is worth noting that the spokesman for the Ministry of Defense replied that the UK is not sending troops to such exercises and is not going to take part in them in the future.
