Microsoft unveils new Xbox Series X specs

US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — The console Xbox Series X should be a real breakthrough in the field of console gaming. Although its official release was planned only at the end of the year, almost everything is known about the gadget. A few weeks ago, Microsoft confirmed most of the alleged characteristics of the console, and now revealed the full specification of the console.

As has been repeatedly reported, the Xbox Series X will receive an eight-core AMD Zen 2 processor with a clock frequency of 3.8 GHz. The total GPU performance will be 12 TFLOPS: it consists of 52 computing units with a frequency of 1.825 GHz each. The console will also receive a 16 GB DDR6 RAM bar and a 1 TB SSM NVME drive: the latter, thanks to the new memory management system, provides instant access to 100 GB of data.

The new Xbox is capable of delivering images with resolutions up to 8K at a frame rate of 120 FPS. However, such sky-high indicators will not be available for all games: as the optimal goal, developers indicate support for 4K and 60 FPS.

The new DirectStorage API input and output system will allow you to unload the processor and allocate more resources for processing non-game characters and gameplay physics. And the Sampler Feedback Streaming function will allow you to load into the memory only those parts of the game that are necessary for a specific location. Thanks to this, game worlds will become more dynamic, and system loading faster.

One of the goals of the developers was to save players from loading screens. Therefore, the memory of the Xbox Series X can store up to three games at the same time – at least. It will take about seven to ten seconds to switch between games: this will especially please those who, for example, want to quickly switch from a single game to a multiplayer one. To demonstrate how everything will work, the developers of the console published a corresponding video.

Another video about the new console is devoted to comparing the downloads of the game State of Decay 2 on the Xbox One X and Xbox Series X. Although both devices use the same version of the game, the load time on Series X is eight seconds compared to 50 for the older console. By the way, the new console has hardware compatibility with One X.

Innovations also touched the gamepad console. He has a Share button for sharing videos and screenshots, as well as Bluetooth with reduced power consumption. According to the developers, they wanted to make the device equally convenient for both an adult man and a small child.

The price of the console, as well as the exact release date at Microsoft has not yet been reported. Tentatively, the console will go on sale in October-November 2020, but the coronavirus pandemic can correct these plans.
