Meteorologists expect a record hot year in the next five years
(ORDO NEWS) — At least one record hot year is likely to come in the next five years, according to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), citing a study by the UK Meteorological Service.
According to the study, “there is a 90 percent chance that at least one year between 2021-2025 will be the hottest on record,” according to the UN website.
Thus, the temperature in a hot year will surpass the indicators of 2016. It is noted that the average annual global temperature will rise by 1.5 degrees Celsius above the pre-industrial level.
“Rising temperatures will mean more ice melting, rising sea levels, increased heat waves and other extreme weather conditions, and greater impacts on food security, health, environment and sustainable development,” WMO Secretary General Petteri said on the website Taalas.
