US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — Mercedes-Benz has published the first image of a new generation of its flagship S-class sedan in the back of the W223. However, there is no longer any intrigue: the appearance of the future news was previously declassified by photo spies.
As was already clear from spy photos previously published on the Web, changes in appearance are evolutionary in nature.
On the front there is an enlarged radiator grill and thinner headlights – and a common resemblance to the recently updated E-class. At the back there are new horizontal lights with a chrome strip from wing to wing, another trunk lid and a redesigned bumper.
The salon in Mercedes has not yet been opened, but thanks to all the same photo spies, it is already known that the main change that is visible to the eye will happen just in the interior. There was a small revolution in the style of “minimalism”. Instead of a scattering of buttons, there is an almost empty two-story panel with two huge screens.
The steering wheel with the new double spokes is also completely new, and from it it will be possible to control a large number of functions.
In the new S-class, the lighting control unit was moved to the driver’s door, the engine start button is located between two large screens on the dashboard, and the large central display of the media system simultaneously controls the “climate”, audio system, etc.
There are no official technical details either. It is expected that the new S-Class on the MRA II platform will become larger, and can also get a level 3 autopilot, active suspension and, possibly, steered rear wheels.
It is assumed that the motor range of the sedan will be noticeably electrified – this implies a new brand strategy, which provides for an increase in the number of hybrid models. However, it was previously reported that in the new generation, the flagship Mercedes-Benz will still retain the V12 configuration engine.
In addition, a completely new generation of the branded multimedia complex MBUX has already been promised to the sedan, and at the end of this or the beginning of next year, the company’s line-up will be supplemented by the electric alter-ego of the sedan with the EQS designation.
The premiere of the new S-class is expected in the second half of 2020.
