(ORDO NEWS) — The new technologies are expected to appear on production models in 2023. Mercedes-Benz showed in action the work of its unmanned vehicles
In December 2021, Mercedes-Benz became the first automotive company in the world to meet the stringent legal requirements of the international UN-R157 for a Level 3 system that allows the company’s Drive Pilot system to be used to drive a car without constant human supervision.
Currently, Drive Pilot can be used on 13,191 km of German highways that are approved for conditionally unmanned vehicles, and by the end of 2022, Mercedes-Benz expects to certify its system in the United States, in the states of California and Nevada, where legislation allows the use of such technologies.
Demonstrated on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class S580 sedan, the technology will enable the driver to be distracted from the road and spend time on the road for rest or work.
It is stated that in terms of technology, the Drive Pilot complex provides maximum safety and reliability in motion.
How Intelligent Park Pilot differs from Drive Pilot
While Drive Pilot can be used on public roads, Intelligent Park Pilot is designed to automate the parking process. The new development was demonstrated on the example of the flagship electric car Mercedes-Benz EQS 580.
In order to park their car, the owner just needs to come to the parking lot and select the parking option on the smartphone.
Then the car will independently find a free space in the parking lot (this requires special equipment in the parking lot), drive to it, avoiding other cars and people, and park.
Upon the return of a person, from a smartphone, you can remotely call a car from a parking space to a special landing zone.
Drive Pilot and Intelligent Park Pilot are expected to be available for the Mercedes-Benz S-Class S580 and Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 in 2023. The cost of each option is estimated at about $5,000.
