Menthol cigarettes banned in all EU countries

US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — Starting May 20, cigarettes with menthol or fruit flavors will be banned in all EU countries, the German DPA news agency reported.

This decision was made due to the fact that menthol and other additives soften the smell of tobacco itself, and cigarettes become more attractive, especially for novice smokers.

So the EU ends the four-year transition period introduced for harmful products: in 2016, the anti-tobacco program came into force, which some tobacco companies tried to challenge. However, the European Court of Justice did not accept their objections.

Since then, two-thirds of the covers of cigarette and tobacco packs (on both sides) should be filled with repulsive pictures that illustrate the dire consequences of smoking and warning labels.
