(ORDO NEWS) — According to experts, our Sun is tilted about 6 degrees from its equator. For decades, the cause of this phenomenon remained an astronomical mystery. Now experts believe they have finally found the answer to it: Planet Nine.
Astrophysicist and planetary scientist at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena Elizabeth Bailey believes that the ninth planet tilted the Sun by six degrees. The missing “planet may have tilted other planets over the lifetime of the solar system.”
Planet Nine is an as yet undiscovered celestial body believed to exist at the outer edges of our solar system and was predicted in January 2016 in a study by Konstantin Batygin and Mike Brown.
According to experts, all the planets located in the solar system rotate in a plane relative to the Sun, with a difference of several degrees from each other.
However, experts say that this plane is tilted by six degrees relative to the Sun. This leads scientists to believe that our Sun is not tilted as it should be.
For many years no one could explain what it was about.
The sun is oriented differently than everything else in our solar system. Researchers believe that an unknown massive body in the solar system could have caused the sun to tilt by six degrees.
“It’s such a deep-rooted mystery and so hard to explain that people just don’t talk about it,” says Richard and Barbara Rosenberg professor of planetary astronomy Mike Brown.
To get to the bottom of the truth, Bailey and other researchers ran computer simulations and found that the tilt of the eight planets could be explained by the gravitational influence of the ninth planet.
In an interview with Space.com, Bailey noted that there are other explanations for such a strange tilt, to which the solar system has adapted over the 4.5 billion years of its existence.
One such explanation is that there may have been an imbalance in the mass of the core of the nascent Sun. According to Konstantin Batygin and Mike Brown, the Sun most likely revolves around an invisible massive planet, about ten times the size of the Earth, with a large orbit that is about 20 times farther from the Sun than the planet Neptune is.
“It continues to surprise us. Every time we are convinced that the Ninth planet explains something incomprehensible in the solar system,” says Batygin.
Although this is one of the explanations for the unusual tilt of our solar system, experts now have to find this mysterious Planet X and thereby confirm their theory.
