(ORDO NEWS) — One tourist has died and two relatives have gone missing after a landslide hit a hotel in San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina, a popular ski resort in the region, Diario do Nordeste reports.
The incident happened late in the evening on June 6, after a long downpour. Higher up the slope, workers were digging a foundation pit for the construction of another hotel, but in the end, their actions set the rocks in motion.
A powerful layer broke through the wall and filled with earth about a third of the first floor of a five-star hotel located near Lake Nahuel Huapi.
The deceased man, who came on vacation from Uruguay, found himself in a death trap in his room, two of his relatives have not yet been found. The wife of the deceased and two other people were taken to the hospital with injuries.
