(ORDO NEWS) — The novelty has become the second SUV in the extensive and glorious history of the Italian automaker. Maserati unveiled the new Grecale, a compact crossover that will be the brand’s first electric vehicle
Maserati is expanding its line of cars with crossovers popular with buyers. To the only model of this type, the Maserati Levante, the company has added a more compact crossover Maserati Grecale – named after a strong northeast wind in the Mediterranean Sea car.
The novelty is built on the Giorgio platform, which is used by the serial Alfa Romeo Giulia and Alfa Romeo Stelvio, but the Maserati model received an important difference – it can be equipped with an air suspension that allows you to adjust the ground clearance within 65 mm.
The design of the Grecale is made in the style typical of the Italian brand, including the characteristic “oval” grille and lights, referring to the Maserati 3200GT sports car. In the cabin, at the same time, everything is done quite futuristically.
The key feature of the Grecale is the unusual center console. The top 12.3-inch touchscreen of the Maserati Intelligent Assistant multimedia system based on Android OS is angled to the 8.8-inch touchscreen of the climate system.
Two more screens play the role of a digital instrument panel, which is based on a 12.3-inch display, and a clock face on the front panel.
Grecale will enter the market in three versions. Grecale GT and Grecale Modena are equipped with a “soft” hybrid power plant based on a 2-liter turbo engine and a 48-volt starter-generator, and its power is 300 hp. and 330 hp respectively.
Grecale Trofeo will receive a 530-horsepower 3-liter V6 from the Maserati MC20 sports car. All cars have only 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
What is Maserati Folgore
However, in the future there will be a fully electric version. Maserati has announced a whole family of Folgore (translated from Italian means “thunderbolt”), which will be available in the brand’s serial electric vehicles. And the first of them will be the Maserati Grecale Folgore crossover.
Such a model will be released in 2023 and will have a 400-volt electrical system and a 105 kWh battery. So far, these are all the officially known parameters of the upcoming Grecale Folgore electric crossover, which will become the brand’s first production electric car.
