(ORDO NEWS) — On December 27, 1984, a strange stone was found in Antarctica , which turned out to be a fragment of a meteorite that fell to Earth about 13,000 years ago.
To be more precise, they found a fragment of Mars , which broke away from the planet at the time of the meteorite impact. The object received the designation ALH 84001.
In 1996, NASA scientists, using the most modern technologies at that time, came to an unexpected conclusion: inside a fragment of Mars there was something that looked like petrified microbes!
Scientists argued long and hard about whether ALH 84001 is evidence of life outside our planet, and only in 2022 did they manage to dot the “i”, establishing that there were no fossils, and organic compounds got inside already on Earth.
Does this mean that there is no and never was life on Mars?
No. For example, the NASA Curiosity rover has repeatedly found organic molecules on the surface of the Red Planet. We talked about this in our article .
These organic molecules do not necessarily prove the existence of life on Mars, but on Earth they tend to be found in places where life exists.
In addition, abundant subsurface methane emissions are observed on Mars, which may indicate the presence of life in the bowels of the planet.
Mars continues to be a place where our chances of finding traces of extraterrestrial life are quite high.
