(ORDO NEWS) — On the eve of Canadian astrophysicists said that the Earth is waiting for a cosmic catastrophe: it will crash into Mars and split.
The hypothesis that our Milky Way galaxy will collide with the Andromeda galaxy in the future has been put forward in scientific circles for a long time.
Now astrophysicists at the University of Toronto claim to have tested it and found confirmation. At the same time, one of the options for the consequences is that the Earth, crashing into Mars, will split into pieces.
According to another version of scientists, this will happen after a collision with Venus. Only the dates set by astrophysicists are reassuring – in 3-5 billion years.
“Anything can happen in billions of years,” the scientist notes. – I think that humanity needs to be prepared for such a development of events, but we will not catch it. And now there are tasks that need to be solved, say, environmental problems.
This needs to be done, using the opportunities that space gives to study the planet. And there is still a lot of unknown in the Universe, and by studying something specific, there is a chance to make a discovery that is important for our future.
This year we will celebrate the 65th anniversary of the launch of the first artificial satellite of the Earth – this is the beginning of the space age of mankind. Only 65 years old.
Oleg Mukhin believes that the lifetime of the solar system depends on how much more the sun will shine:
“There are not so many billions of years left!” (The life span of the Sun is about 10 billion years, behind – 4.5 billion. – “MV”). Of course, exact calculations are yet to come. But the Sun throws out energy, slowly cools down.
And the day will come when it will cease to shine, and without it, as you understand, life on Earth is impossible. But by that time, people will probably be able to fly to another solar system.
Another danger, according to the scientist, is the fall of a large asteroid on our planet. This can bring gigantic destruction, affect the climate and lead to the death of mankind.
– As the Soviet cosmonaut German Titov said: “We are all cosmonauts. We fly on a spaceship called Earth. How will this flight go? For now, we can only build hypotheses and see what important things will happen next. Right now, satellites are tracking asteroids flying towards the Earth.
And space technology already allows them to be taken away from our planet. And we have learned this for some 65 years since the beginning of the space age! And what will we be able to do in 100-200 years? Let’s hope humanity finds a way to live in the universe.
