(ORDO NEWS) — After thirty long years, a man from the US state of Tennessee finally revealed the reason for his sudden decision to stop walking in the woods.
The man, who chose to remain anonymous, kept the secret hidden for decades, but recent events have prompted him to come forward about a macabre experience that forced him to avoid the Tennessee wilderness.
The story he tells is one of fear, survival, and an encounter with the unknown that changed his life forever.
The forests of Tennessee used to be a refuge for this man, a place where he could escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and connect with nature.
He enjoyed every free minute here, fishing, hunting with his two faithful German Shepherds. One day he went into the woods light and walked only a couple of miles to the Smokey.
Camped there and spent a lovely day exploring the area with his faithful canine companions.
At some point, the dogs fussed over some rubbish, but the man thought it was from a bear and did not attach much importance to it.
When evening came, the man was about to build a fire to keep warm. However, he noticed that his dogs seemed unusually agitated, barking and growling at something in the distance.
Even though they had always managed to keep the bears away before, the man couldn’t help but feel uneasy. But next to him was his trusty rifle, and he was sure that he would cope with everything that came in their way.
As night fell, warm summer air enveloped the camp, prompting the man to leave the tent open. He settled down for the night with his faithful pets snuggling up to him.
He awoke in the middle of the night to see bright moonlight illuminating the camp.
The man heard the dogs making a deep, low growl as they looked at something. Their fur stood on end. Then he noticed another noise, like a humming groan, coming from outside the tent.
The source of the moaning noise became apparent as the man’s eyes adjusted to the darkness. Now he could make out dark shapes like a bear hiding behind the cold coals of a fire.
The man began to yell at the dark, looming figure behind the tent. To his surprise, the creature fell silent, but then began to grow in size until it towered over the mesh window in the roof of the tent.
The man could hardly believe what he saw – he had never faced something so huge. Meanwhile, his two dogs continued to growl, their instincts clearly telling them that this creature was not to be trusted.
He heard the creature take a deep, long breath and let out a trumpet call. It was like a mixture of a lion’s roar and a human scream.
The dogs fell silent in horror, and the creature ran away. The man was horrified and unable to stop his dogs from chasing the creature, as they ignored his commands.
Recovering, he grabbed his rifle and headlamp and ran after them. He could hear them barking in the distance, but they were moving too fast.
Then he heard something that sent chills down his spine – a maniacal hyena-like laugh coming from the direction of the dogs.
Despite a growing sense of dread, the man continued to follow the sounds of barking and laughter, hoping he would find his dogs alive.
But when the night came to an end and the barking died down, he realized that he needed to return to the camp so as not to get lost.
He could no longer sleep, waiting for the dogs to return to the camp, calling them from time to time, but to no avail. As soon as the sun rose, he again went in search of his beloved pets.
After several hours of searching, he finally stumbled upon them – one dog was badly wounded and whined in the bushes, the other was torn to pieces.
The loss of the dog hit him hard, and the surviving dog was never the same again, he became afraid of both the night and the forest.
The man knows that he encountered something truly terrifying in the woods that night, something far worse than any bear or other known predator.
To this day, he has not been able to fully explain what he saw and heard that fateful night, but he is sure that it was the meeting with an unknown creature that made him forever abandon walking in the wild forests of Tennessee.
