(ORDO NEWS) — Researchers at the University of Washington School of Medicine are trying to study the immune system against coronavirus.
The most important question that worries everyone today is whether lifelong immunity is possible or not. To find out, scientists examined the bone marrow of 77 volunteers. Reported by National Helard.
For the reliability of the data obtained, it was necessary to observe one important condition during the experiment. The study needed people who had had coronavirus. In a mild form or with complications, the disease proceeded – it did not matter for scientists.
So, blood samples were taken from the volunteers for analysis every three months. The analysis showed that the amount of antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 first decreased and then stabilized. In some cases, even 11 months after the illness, natural immunity remained.
Further, bone marrow samples were taken from the volunteers. This time, 18 different samples were examined from a focus group who had had a coronavirus, and 11 samples from people who had not yet become infected.
In 15 samples of people with immunity, indivisible cells were found that produce antibodies. The cells are absolutely motionless. They simply “sit” in the bone marrow from the moment the body heals from the coronavirus.
The degree of effectiveness of these antibodies has not yet been studied, but the fact that they remain in the body forever has already been proven. And this increases the chances of lifelong immunity against a dangerous illness.
