Largest volcano on Earth showed signs of awakening

(ORDO NEWS) — The Mauna Loa volcano is one of the five components of the Big Island of Hawaii. He is the largest in his group.

At the same time, this volcano is considered the largest active volcano on Earth. Lately there have been too many signs that he is waking up.

The U.S. Geological Survey’s (HVO) Hawaiian Volcanic Observatory monitors Mauna Loa’s activity very closely throughout. The researchers were reporting every week, but now the situation has changed.

Reports began to be issued daily. In addition, the switch to the “yellow recommendation” was made. This indicates that the volcano has not yet begun to erupt, but it is “exciting”.

In the event that scientists determine that the eruption cannot be avoided or that it will begin, the danger level will become “red”.

When experts were watching the volcano, they noticed that it started to wake up in 2021. This was indicated by many earthquakes with a small magnitude.

Over the past few weeks, aftershocks have become much more frequent. For example, at the beginning of summer, there were only a few minor earthquakes per day. Now there are up to fifty.

It is worth paying attention to the fact that the giant volcano rises almost 4 thousand meters above sea level. At the same time, a huge massif is hidden under the Pacific Ocean. Together with him, the height of Mauna Loa reaches a mark of 16.5 thousand meters.

The last eruption of this monster took place in 1984. Scientists were then able to warn the local authorities, as well as the population, of a serious threat several weeks before the volcano finally woke up. Then a lot of lava was erupted, which moved with great speed.
