(ORDO NEWS) — A small lake located between Loma Plata and Philadelphia in Paraguay turned red, which surprised the locals.
According to experts, the color change is associated with a natural phenomenon. A few weeks ago, Nora Neris, director of the Department of Wildlife Protection at the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development (Mades), commissioned a technical team to analyze water samples that mysteriously turned red overnight, confusing local residents.
The neighboring small lakes (within a radius of about 500 meters) did not change color and had excellent values relative to the ecological balance.
Officials believe that this phenomenon is natural and is associated with the current drought and lack of oxygen in the water, which provokes the flowering of red algae, thereby changing the color of the water.
