(ORDO NEWS) — Experts from Korea have developed a hoverboard capable of hovering a short distance above the ground using an air cushion.
In this case, the device can transport a person or work as an unmanned cargo delivery vehicle.
Engineers from the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute and the Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology took part in the project.
They managed to create a hoverboard hoverboard, which is slightly larger than a longboard.
How a hoverboard works
The transport is equipped with a pair of fans that force air into the pad under the board and make it rise above the ground.
In addition, the engineers created a second prototype, consisting of two halves connected by a loop mechanism and capable of returning relative to each other.
The developers demonstrated how the hoverboard independently moves to the person, and then rides with him, bearing his weight.
In the video, you can see that the board can move on different surfaces: from flat tiles to puddles and gravel.
Judging by the video, the hoverboard is fully controllable, as opposed to a preliminary development based on an air cushion.
Engineers have shown another use for the hoverboard. They suggested using it as a courier robot that could be loaded with boxes of goods and sent to a customer’s home.
True, for this, the transport will still have to be finalized, because it does not have a number of necessary sensors for navigation.
