(ORDO NEWS) — On the evening of December 21, the great conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn can be observed in the sky.
The conjunction of planets in astronomy is the moment of their visual convergence on the celestial sphere for the observer. In reality, Jupiter and Saturn will be at a distance of about 750 million kilometers from each other. In the sky, the two planets will be perceived with the naked eye as a bright double star.
The uniqueness of the event is that earlier a similar rapprochement occurred on March 4, 1226, and the next time it will happen on March 15, 2080, Crimean astronomer Alexander Yakushechkin told RIA Novosti.
He advises observing the connection with an optical device, and the best conditions for observing an astronomical event will develop in the southern regions.
