(ORDO NEWS) — NASA‘s James Webb Space Telescope team has been selected to receive the John L. “Jack” Swigert Jr. Space Exploration Award.
This annual award is given to a space agency, company, or consortium of organizations in the field of space exploration and discovery.
The award will be presented at the annual opening ceremony of the Space Foundation Space Symposium in Colorado on April 17th.
James Webb is the world‘s leading space science telescope. It was launched on December 25, 2021. Through its optics, Webb can see the earliest galaxies and star formation behind dust clouds.
The telescope provides a more detailed view of the atmospheres of planets outside our solar system than ever before. Webb also looked at the planets within the solar system, including Neptune’s rings.
The award, named after NASA astronaut Jack Swigert, recognizes the contributions to space exploration by members of the James Webb team who designed and developed the telescope, and who now operate the mission.
