US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — Foreign tourists will not be able to visit Italy in 2020. The country closed its borders before the end of the year, announced Minister of Culture and Tourism Dario Franceschini.
Whether borders will be opened depends on the policies of each individual state and on the situation with the coronavirus COVID-19.
In May, museums and the country’s main attractions, such as the Colosseum and Pompeii, may resume work, the minister said.
To date, 195 351 people have been infected with coronavirus in Italy, 26 384 have died, 63 120 have recovered. The country has one of the highest death rates from infection in the world – 436 deaths per million people.
For comparison, in Russia this indicator is 5, it is noted on the Worldometers portal.
