Italy still does not understand what is quarantine

US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — The situation in Italy with the coronavirus COVID-19 remains very difficult: 368 people have died over the past 24 hours.

Altogether, 25 thousand infected people were identified in Italy, 10 thousand people were hospitalized, and the peak of the disease has not yet been passed, VGTRK correspondent Asya Emelyanova said on live television from the 60-minute program from Rome.

According to her, Italy still has not understood what quarantine is. Chinese doctors who flew in from Wuhan to help Italian doctors were in shock. In their view, there are too many people on the streets, and most without masks.

However, as Asya Emelyanova said, at the moment there are practically no protective masks in Italy. They even caused a diplomatic scandal. “Europe, which verbally expresses its support to Italy, has blocked the already paid batches of masks on the border.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs even had to intervene in the situation,” the VGTRK correspondent said.

Italy became the epicenter of the spread of the new coronavirus in Europe: the country ranks second (after China) in the world in recorded cases of COVID-19. Former Prime Minister Matteo Renzi noted that the virus went through Italy for 10 days before health officials realized this.

Italian doctors have written an open warning letter to the world. “We want to convey an important message: get ready!” – said in a letter. Doctors warn that Italy is more a harbinger of what will happen around the world than a unique case.

On March 16, the number of confirmed cases of infection with a new coronavirus worldwide reached 167,710 people. 6506 patients died, 76 831 recovered.
