Dermatological problems in people infected with coronavirus mainly affect young people, Spanish doctors say.
“The skin is the largest organ in the body, and in some cases skin lesions, which often appear as a rash, can be a sign of disease,” says Bruce H. Thiers, president of the American Academy of Dermatology.
At the same time, doctors explain that not every rash is a symptom of a coronavirus infection.
– If someone is struggling with a regularly recurring rash that does not itch and does not burn, then this is probably not related to a viral infection. However, if you first noticed hives, contact your family doctor for a coronavirus test, ”says dermatologist Howard Lanser.
Spanish scientists point to numerous cases of “purple changes” on the skin of the legs. A statement published on the website of the Spanish Chamber of Podology (CGCOP) states that dermatological changes in the legs are very common in children and adolescents infected with coronavirus.
“In most cases, purple skin lesions are not dangerous. Their appearance and fever, and coughing may indicate infection.”
