Is it possible to make a beskar from the Star Wars universe
(ORDO NEWS) — Beskar is a metal used in the creation of Mandalorian armor, known for its extremely high resistance to damage.
Armor made from beskar could withstand a direct hit from a blaster and could also withstand a blow from the famous Jedi lightsaber. Is there an analogue of beskar here on Earth?
In the form of an ingot, the beskar looks like silver with wavy patterns, reminiscent of the legendary high-carbon type of steel that appeared in Western Asia and was forged in Damascus (Syria) from 900 to 1750. This is the famous Damascus steel.
The main difference between Damascus steel is the combination of hardness and flexibility, which is achieved by alternating layers.
The sharpness of the product is given by a layer of metal with a high carbon content, strength – with a low one.
Despite its strength and durability, it was very light and easy to mold, which strongly resembles the properties of the bescar from the Star Wars universe.
Thus, it was the medieval “inventors” of Damascus steel that could inspire George Lucas to “create” the beskar.
