US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — An Iranian ship, the Saviz, was targeted in the Red Sea, Iran’s foreign ministry said on Wednesday, as media reported a limpet mine attack”, glued to the hulls of boats.
“The explosion occurred Tuesday morning near the coast of Djibouti and caused minor damage without causing any casualties. The boat is a civilian vessel patrolling these waters to ensure the security of the region against pirates,” a ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said, adding that an investigation has been opened.
Several attacks on Israeli and Iranian commercial ships have been reported in the region since February, with each country accusing the other of being responsible.
The Israeli authorities have refused to comment on the attack which allegedly targeted Saviz.
