(ORDO NEWS) — The number of people in West and Central Africa who will experience food insecurity will reach 48 million by mid-2023, Reuters reported on Friday, citing UN calculations.
This figure is the highest in the entire modern history of the region, it notes.
To date, 35 million people, or 8% of the population, are experiencing food shortages in West and Central Africa.
Experts of the World Food Program note that among the countries of this region, Mali, Burkina Faso and Nigeria are now in the most difficult situation with food security.
