US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — The cloning experiment was conducted by employees of the Federal Research Center for Animal Husbandry – VIZH named after Academician L.K. Ernst and Moscow State University.

The aim of the experiment was to edit the animal genome, which will allow to obtain breeds with improved properties.

“For cloning animals with the right properties, you need to have donor cells in which we are 100% sure that they are correctly edited and really improved in the right direction. To do this, we transfer all editing work to the culture of donor cells, from which we will then receive cloned animals,” explained Natalia Zinovieva, Director of the VIZH.

According to her, this will allow all work to be carried out in the laboratory and to obtain cells from animals with high productivity in order to advance further improve the qualities of the future animal. Scientists expect to improve the composition of milk of bred cows and increase resistance to disease.

“We do not need to conduct very complex and expensive experiments on animals, everything is done practically in vitro,” Natalya Zinovieva.

Scientists have already conducted experiments on editing the gene, which is responsible for producing the main allergen of cow’s milk, which will make it possible to get a clone with low-allergenic milk.

This work was supported by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research.
