US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — In France, during another study in the southeastern part of the country, a Roman sanctuary was excavated. In it, scientists found quite a lot of various artifacts, among which was a flask of a legionnaire.
This flask was part of the ammunition of the Roman legionnaires. An alloy with copper and iron was used for its manufacture. Earlier in the territory of Gaul, experts found two similar artifacts. It is worth noting that the ancient flask is somewhat similar to the modern version. It has a cylindrical body and two iron shells, a wide neck that closes very tightly. In this case, the cover is attached to the handle using a special chain of wire.
As a result of the analysis, it was possible to establish that the legionnaires did not store non-alcoholic drinks in the flask. But due to the fact that there is a castle on the find, it seems that it was not water, but something more valuable.
For example, it could be milk. Scientists decided to do an analysis of the residues of organic matter, which showed that this is some kind of obscure mixture. The mixture included millet mixed with berries and dairy products.
Experts also found coniferous resin and a plant containing oleanolic acid. It was not possible to establish what kind of plant it was. Some experts suggested that it could be a special elixir for various ceremonies.
