(ORDO NEWS) — Archaeologists found a mummy covered in layers of gold. Scientists say that this is Hekashepes, and he lived 4300 years ago. There were other sarcophagi with it.
The mummy was discovered in Saqqara and is now being transported to Cairo, where the find will be carefully examined in a laboratory.
Human remains lay in the mine at a depth of 15 m and have been perfectly preserved to this day.
Along with the sarcophagi, archaeologists discovered many ancient statues and other rare artifacts. The museum in Cairo will once again be replenished with a multi-million fortune.
The mummy, covered with gold, lay in a limestone sarcophagus. This was confirmed by Zahi Hawass, the former minister of antiquities in Egypt.
The man also says that this may be one of the oldest mummies ever found by scientists.
Other 4 sarcophagi are no less interesting for historians. These finds date back to the 25th-22nd centuries BC. The largest of the tombs found belongs to a priest-inspector with the unusual name of Khnumjedef.
Another tomb became the burial place of a high-ranking palace official. It is assumed that during his lifetime he was the keeper of the palace secrets, that is why he was buried with honors.
The third of the discovered graves belonged to a priest, and the last – to judge Fetek.
Today it is very difficult to find such a complete burial. Necropolises are being excavated, but such serious discoveries have not been made for a long time.
Scientists hope that the new discoveries will attract many tourists, because this is one of the main sources of income in Egypt.
And if you do not have the opportunity or desire to go to Egypt to look at the mummies, you can do it in the beautiful Paris Louvre. By the way, they are also stored there.
