US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — A new species of tick has been found in Siberia – a hybrid of the taiga tick and Pavlovsky tick, which usually lives in the Far East and Altai.

Most of these ticks were found in the Novosibirsk region, writes the publication “Science in Siberia.” They are more dangerous to humans than existing ones, and are more widespread.

Scientists from the Novosibirsk Institute of Chemical Biology and Fundamental Medicine have found that the new tick carries diseases that are common to both types of parent ticks.

Among them – tick-borne encephalitis virus, various types of borrelia, rickettsia, ehrlichia, anoplasm, as well as babesia, which affect dogs.

Tomsk scientists came to the conclusion that such hybrids can become sources of the emergence of new strains of tick-borne infections, against which existing vaccines will not work. A new species of ticks is very prolific and can begin to displace parent species.
