(ORDO NEWS) — In China, in the north of Shaanxi province, archaeologists have discovered the ancient city of Simao previously unknown to science. The city, surrounded by powerful fortress walls, had on its territory a huge pyramid , erected during the construction of the Egyptian pyramids. The discovery of archaeologists is reported by the scientific publication National Geographic.
Archaeologists could not figure out the name of this city, so they gave it a name based on the place where it was discovered.
Previously, it was believed that the ruins of Simao were part of the Great Wall of China, but recent studies have dispelled this assumption. Excavations by archaeologists have shown that it was a separate city with powerful fortress walls.
The analysis showed that the ancient city was erected about 4,300 years ago, that is, 2,000 years before the construction of the Great Wall of China.
In the center of the city, surrounded by massive walls, archaeologists have discovered a huge pyramid 70 meters high. Scientists believe that the pyramid was part of the city’s defensive system. It had several tiers, where the upper tier was most likely intended for the elite and was used only during wars.
There is not the slightest mention of this city in any written source or oral legends. Scientists still cannot understand how people of the Neolithic era were able to erect such a gigantic structure, and what technologies they possessed.
