(ORDO NEWS) — Messier 51 (“Messier 51”) or the galaxy M51 was discovered by Charles Messier in 1773 and is located at a distance of 31 million light years from Earth.
The Hubble telescope, which with its gaze penetrated into the deep regions of the Universe, once again captured an amazing phenomenon in space.
The orbiting observatory has captured a hypnotically mesmerizing object known as galaxy M51 or the Whirlpool Galaxy.
The galaxy was photographed by the Hubble camera, which was improved for such shooting. The image shows beautifully curved arms, pink star-forming regions, and brilliant blue filaments of star clusters.
According to some astronomers, a close encounter with NGC 5195, a small, yellowish galaxy at the outermost point of one of the arms, makes the Whirlpool arms particularly visible, where tidal forces from that galaxy are likely to trigger new star formation. NGC 5195 is clearly visible passing behind M51 in several Hubble images.
The galaxy M51 was discovered by Charles Messier in 1773 and is located 31 million light-years away in the constellation Canes Venatici in 1773 at a magnitude of 8.4 which can be easily seen with a small telescope.
The magnificent image of the Whirlpool galaxy and its close proximity to Earth give astronomers the opportunity to study the structure and star formation processes of a classic spiral galaxy.
