How many trees grow in northern Africa: NASA managed to count their number

(ORDO NEWS) — NASA engineers used machine learning to analyze satellite imagery of northern Africa, and it was able to detect every one of the 9.9 billion trees that grow in this part of the Earth.

The researchers used a machine learning algorithm to analyze satellite images and find individual trees on them.

The artificial intelligence was also able to estimate the number of leaves on each tree and the amount of carbon they contain.

The study was carried out for the territory of North Africa from the Atlantic coast to the Red Sea. The figure of 9.9 billion trees may seem huge, but it is actually less than the estimates given for the region so far.
