(ORDO NEWS) — Temperatures have dropped below freezing in parts of the country this morning, and farmers are reporting massive damage to their crops.
Temperatures in Ta Kwu Lin reached 0.9 degrees, the lowest level in 33 years.
Meteorologists said it was “radiation cooling” and predict a rise in temperature over the next few days before reversing early next week.
Radiation cooling is the maximum cooling of the earth that occurs in clear skies, light winds, and arid conditions.
According to the Hong Kong Observatory, the winter monsoon will decrease slightly over the next couple of days, resulting in warmer weather Thursday through Saturday, 12 to 20 degrees, but still chilly in the morning over the hinterland.
While another surge in the winter monsoon will affect Hong Kong early next week, when the weather turns cold again, as well as rain in the middle and late next week.
