(ORDO NEWS) — Authorities in Honduras have declared a 90-day nationwide public health alert due to an outbreak of bird flu among pelicans.
About 40,000 poultry were also examined, but no signs of the disease were found. Measures to “control and eliminate the presence of avian influenza in domestic and wild birds” may be extended depending on “epidemiological evolution,” the Honduran government said.
Two outbreaks of avian influenza (H5N1) have been seen in wild birds found dead on the seashore.
