(ORDO NEWS) — Experts from Harvard University have completed one of the largest projects in the study of human happiness.
For more than 80 years, they have been watching the lives of 724 men and their descendants, finding out what makes a person happy.
According to Walla, the results of the work were unexpected even for the researchers themselves.
The central component of happiness was not wealth, career or success, but good relationships with other people.
Experts concluded that it is friends that prolong life and improve health.
“Social relationships are so important that if one were to condense all the material collected during research into one principle, it would be this: “Strong relationships make us healthy and happy.
Period,” commented the authors of the study.
Among the people they watched were those who had to literally fight for their lives. Citizens who had stronger social ties were more likely to come out of trouble unscathed.
Moreover, according to the researchers, happiness is not the end station. It is the road itself, the continuous process of passing it.
And if difficult moments occur in life, then it is easier to experience them with friends.
