Google hires veteran Goldman Sachs to bolster cloud security

US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — The American Alphabet Inc, the Google holding company, has appointed a person responsible for information security in its cloud computing division Google Cloud, writes The Wall Street Journal.

Phil Venables, Senior Risk and Cybersecurity Advisor at Goldman Sachs Group Inc., will join Google Cloud Monday as Chief Information Officer (CISO). Venables, who also serves on the board of directors of Goldman Sachs Bank USA, served as the financial giant’s CISO for nearly 20 years and recently took over the post on a temporary basis due to a staff reshuffle.

At Google, Venables said he will focus specifically on cloud migration and customer protection, along with homeland security.

Prior to Goldman Sachs, Venables also worked in cyber security for Deutsche Bank AG, Standard Chartered PLC and Barclays PLC.
