The primary dark core of a sunspot is actually a huge pole of negative (-) magnetism closely surrounded by many islands of positive (+) polarity.
This is how solar flares start. When + and – collide in close proximity to each other, magnetic reconnection can cause huge explosions. AR3190 poses a threat to X-class solar flares.
Even though AR3190 is not facing Earth, the wide ejecta of any X-flare will still blanket our planet in X-rays and extreme UV radiation. Radio outages and other effects remain possible as long as we can see the sunspot receding.
